Rev. Dr. John Henry, Jr.
Greetings Holmes Grove United Methodist Church,
Thank you for honoring our obligation to “Do no harm, do good, and stay in love with God” as we continue to wear our masks, as we are rebuilding the body of Christ, with our vision: “To be an intergenerational congregation of Christians who love to serve God together.” I have completed my first year of pastoral ministry. I thank God for the opportunity to serve this body of believers at Holmes Grove for another year. We have made great strides thus far, and we are looking forward to what God has in store for us and the community we serve.
Springtime is here. Perhaps we can have some outdoor worship services before It gets too hot outside. In addition, we need to launch online giving to increase our contributions. Please remember that online giving will not replace traditional giving but will give an alternative option to you or those who do everything electronically, especially the younger generation.
A few weeks ago, I attended the Annual Conference 2022 at Lake Junaluska and Sis. Darlene Reaves attended as our delegate. We will share information with you on what is going on in our denomination, especially as some churches are closing and others are disaffiliating. In addition, I will share new trends within churches to keep In-person and online viewers engaged.
We have hosted some great events this month. We had an awesome turnout for the United Women In Faith’s (formerly United Methodist Women) Rainbow Tea. We honored our students who continue to make us proud. We honored the memory of the men who have gone before us, paving the way for our spiritual lives here at Holmes Grove. In addition, we had an awesome time at our outdoor Vacation Bible School last week, concluding with a great grand finale of sharing what we learned and enjoying a concert. Lastly, we witnessed a heartwarming memorial service for Garland Henry McAdoo, Jr., which culminated in a dogwood tree being planted along with his remains.
I am looking forward to this summer. Our Missional Network will be having an Ince cream on Sunday July 17, 2022, at 3:00pm. We will have the following guest speakers for our Annual Revival (August 7-10, 2022): Monday - Rev. Samuel A. Moore from Christ UMC (Greensboro); Tuesday (outdoors)- Rev. Dr. Kevin Sturdivant from Springfield Baptist Church (Raleigh); and on Wednesday - Rev. Carlton Sturdivant Wentworth Baptist Church (Reidsville).
As we remember our mentors, make sure that we are mentoring the next generation. Thanks for all you do at Holmes Grove UMC.
Peace, Love, and Blessings to you all.
